Bangkok is much more than a tourist gateway. Thailand is the 2nd largest economy in Southeast Asia and 9th largest in Asia. The service, industrial, and agricultural sectors all make large contributions to the GDP. Bangkok is the economic centre of Thailand and heart of its investment and development. Wholesale and Retail Trade is the largest sector in Bangkok’s economy, followed by Manufacturing; Real Estate, Renting and Business Activities; Transport and Communications; and Financial Intermediation. Bangkok alone accounts for about 48% of Thailand’s service sector.

The size, diversity and dynamism of its economy supports a thriving entrepreneurial environment in Bangkok, featuring one of the best innovation and startup ecosystems in Southeast Asia. According to StartupBlink, Bangkok is home to 84% of startups in Thailand. There is an increased attraction for entrepreneurs to set up their startups in industries such as Transportation, Fintech, Ecommerce & Retail. These three industries represent about 41% of the startups in StartupBlink’s Startup Ecosystem Map of Bangkok.
